To Dream Big

This week we have been learning about the importance of dreaming big. How can I apply this to myself?

Dreaming is generally not something I have been time blocking onto my Google calendar. But I think it is something I need to start doing. It is very easy to get caught up in tasks – client work, schoolwork, housework, church work, family concerns – and “dream time” gets pushed to the sidelines.

Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group said this:

“Dreaming champions aspiration, spurs innovation, leads to change, and propels the world forward. Open your calendar and schedule time just to dream.”

I feel resistance within myself sometimes when I dare to dream something huge. That little voice wants to jump in and discourage me. This is a confidence issue. Sometimes you have to throw caution to the wind and give yourself permission to imagine the seemingly impossible and “forget the how for now” and think about that end result. What does it look like? What does it feel like? What will I feel like when it happens? What will my family experience if that happens? Is my desire righteous? Does it harm myself or anybody else? If that answer is no to those last two questions, I need to fall back on Philippians 4:13 and remember, “I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.” I love that scripture because it doesn’t say “some things” or a “few things”. It says, “all things”. That tells me the sky is the limit.

We have been given lots of resources in class to set us up for success. Lots of books, lots of confidence building examples, a knowledge that a loving Father in Heaven wants us to succeed. There is a recurring theme in all my reading and study that emphasizes consistency. Consistently scheduling time to dream in my calendar is one way to get my creative juices flowing on a regular basis. Packing a lunch, finding a pretty park, someplace quiet with my laptop or a notebook and starting with prayer and just thinking. Writing down promptings, goals, breaking down those goals into bite-size pieces, refining and rewriting until they feel right. This is something that needs to be added to my weekly to-do list.
