My Intro to This Blog

Hello, I'm Susie and this blog is my introduction to a business startup.

It's also an assignment for a business class - BUS 110, AKA Intro to Entrepreneurship through Brigham Young University - Idaho. I'm a non-traditional student taking my sweet time at earning my bachelors degree, and also taking an 8-week course through the Kauffman Foundation called FastTrac that is with other small businesspeople in my city. I hope to document the things I'm learning about being a business owner, obviously with an emphasis on solopreneurship, since I will be wearing all the hats for myself for now.

After 30-plus years of supporting executives in a corporate administrative professional role, I'm decided to go solo and become a Virtual Assistant. My administrative expertise, combined with a recent certificate in Social Media Marketing from Brigham Young University encourages me that "I can do this." I have the competency and willingness to learn. I am enthusiastic about the new insights and knowledge I will obtain over the next several months and seeing where it will take me.

I've ordered my textbooks from Amazon and I expect a couple of them to arrive today. A takeaway for class this week are 4 goals of my BUS 110 class this semester and those are:

- Discover my entrepreneurial calling.
- Choose constructive habits and embed them into my character.
- Select my next entrepreneurial "stepping stone".
- Embrace disciple leadership by examining the ministry of business.

I'm sure as the weeks pass, that these goals will gain greater clarity for me.

As far as my FastTrac class, something valuable I learned this week is to develop my problem-solving skills. 5 steps for this are as follows:

1. Identify the problem.
2. Define the main elements of my problem.
3. Examine the possible solutions to the problem.
4. Act on resolving my problem.
5. Look for the lessons learned, and write them down so I can remember them.

Looks like this blog will be a good way to do that!
